As well as appearance, we consider quality and durability to be just as important. Our bags are made from sturdy, high-quality leather, with great attention to detail in the finish. In doing so, we consider not only the lifespan of our bags, but also the way in which they are made. BEAR consciously chooses to work with partners who respect both people and the environment. We believe it is important that the craftspeople who make our bags receive a fair wage and that the leather is processed in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

We have been working with the same factories in India for over 30 years. Through this long-standing partnership, we have built a strong bond with our partners and the people who work there. Many employees have been with the company for many years. This trusted partnership contributes to the knowledge, craftsmanship and quality that you see reflected in our products.

The leather for our bags comes from India, where cows mostly live outdoors. As a result, the hides may bear natural marks and have a weathered character. This is reflected in the leather and gives every bag its own unique look. No two BEAR bags are exactly the same, and that is precisely what makes them so special.

Much of our leather is organically tanned. After tanning, it is treated with wax and oil. This gives the leather its distinctive colour and appearance and helps to protect it from moisture. Furthermore, this treatment ensures that the leather feels supple and retains its natural character.

With the right care, you’ll be able to enjoy your BEAR bag for even longer. We recommend treating the leather from time to time with beeswax or a suitable leather conditioner. Beeswax may darken the leather slightly. If you wish to preserve the original colour as much as possible, it is better to opt for a leather conditioner. By looking after your bag properly, the leather will remain beautiful and you’ll be able to enjoy using it for years to come.
